turkey day traditions

happy turkey day! the tradition of running the atlanta half marathon, then feasting with a bunch of a friends in the afternoon continued this year. i finally broke 2 hrs in the half - actually smashed it, with a 1:53:08! i'm very psyched tonight and will sleep sweetly.

time to tri

i began a new quest this week: training for my first triathlon. and my first half-ironman. thought i'd kill 2 birds with 1 stone. i will be training with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team in Training program to complete the Gulf Coast Half Iron in Panama City next May (my 5th event with them in as many years). they promise me i'll learn this whole swimming thing. gosh i hope so.

winding stairs

there's nothing like hitting the downhills at Winding Stairs in mid-50F weather with rain in your face to get you ready for the infamous NGAR. is it wrong that i actually enjoyed our training day?

Friday, November 19

duathlon win!

my all-female team (w/Joanna McConnell & Belinda Carroll) won the female division of the Currahee Adventure Duathlon today. it was a great beginners course with lots of mud. beautiful autumn scenery! we won only by a few seconds, with our training partners/friends Kristen, Belinda & Melissa coming in a close second. i feel sorta bad since we won a cool etched glass plaque and some swag, but try to justify it since we flatted out a few miles from the finish and would have otherwise won handily by several minutes.

biking mathematics

sometimes 2 good rides in a row means you shouldn't push your luck to day #3. thus was the case tonight. so while the others finished the ride, i enjoyed a solo run in the moonlight.

blue skies in blue ridge

yesterday i tackled some trails up in Blue Ridge that previously held my "worst ride ever" award. luckily the gorgeous fall weather made for an equally gorgeous and amazing ride for myself and the other 11 bikers with me. Stanley Gap, you no longer own me. (to the rock garden in Flat Creek, I will get you my little pretty... one day. i hope.)
