the race: 4-5 miles of MUD!!
the result: i got 2nd in beginner master 1 womens (30-39yrs old)
and was 2nd overall in the beginner women category (although this wasn't an official award)

this was my first mountain bike sprint race...a bit different than my usual endurance events. i think the fact that the rain made the course into a mudfest enticed me - perhaps i would have an edge, having the mind of a crazy adventure racer??! i started strong, although quickly realized forgetting my inhaler would cause me to suck more wind than i would have wanted. i had pre-ridden the course the day before, but after a night of storms, it was entirely different. i was lucky to only wipe out once (no major injuries sustained). i led most of the way, but was overtaken by a fellow AR gal, Katja, on the final downhill sections. anyways, i had a ton of fun in my first race of this sort and look forward to the next!
