Volunteer Director , Checkpoint Adventures
While this was the second race I've helped Kevin with (last year's Midnight Rush being the first), this is the first one we've tackled more or less alone (since MRAR was via the TrailBlazers). We first started working on it last summer, with topo maps becoming wall art in Kevin's dining room. It was fun evaluating the maps, circling key areas we wanted to take racers. Kevin did a great job designing a challenging, 70+ mile course to be completed in 24 hours. While I played the role of assistant to anything he needed, my primary job was designing the race logo then handling everything to do with volunteers. The latter went pretty well, despite several volunteers not showing up, leaving the rest of us scrambling at times. Oh, and how can I forget the post-race blueberry pancake breakfast that I volunteered myself to cook? I think I flipped over 200 of those suckers (but still am not tired of those yummy things)... Race weekend went well (I even got to get muddy setting out some checkpoints the day before) and everyone seemed to enjoy the race. Big thanks to Red Bull and Terrapin Beer for their generous donations that helped me get through the night!
